Meet MindMetrix, a company that’s changing the way mental health conditions are detected and diagnosed thanks to a simple, science-backed assessment - built from 25 years of proven clinical treatment protocols and testing.
It’s no secret that mental health is in crisis. Individuals are looking for help - and they’re having a hard time getting it.
In 2023, almost a third[1] of all adults with a mental illness reported that they were not able to receive the treatment they needed. For many, it’s nearly impossible to even get an appointment at all - let alone one with a qualified professional. Now, with the rise of telehealth and large digital networks, the struggle is shifting from an access problem to a credibility problem. With all that is available online, there is a need to cut through the noise to understand and treat mental health concerns.
Often, patients head to their primary care physician instead, who typically isn’t trained to address the issue at hand - yet increasingly faces a pressure to prescribe. But, here’s the thing: mental health presentations are often complex, with many conditions co-existing or looking similar to others, and treatment must be highly personalized. An accurate read on what to treat is critical, and unfortunately, there is no stethoscope for the mind.
Enter MindMetrix - a comprehensive, online mental health assessment that a patient can complete online in less than 45 minutes, and be accurately screened for over 60 mental health conditions.
MindMetrix was created at the Rochester Center for Behavioral Medicine (RCBM), a pioneer in mental health care. The assessment curates a panel of over 60 industry-leading, peer-reviewed psychological rating tools and tests, using proven data and science to check symptoms and determine a patient’s “elevated likelihood” of having a specific mental health condition.
The result: a printable, personalized report with evidence-backed, actionable data that the patient can bring to their doctor for faster, more accurate discussion, diagnosis, and care.
MindMetrix doesn’t replace a diagnosis or medical advice - but it provides both doctors and patients with a more informed, data-driven, accurate assessment of possible conditions, treatment considerations, and next steps.
"Comprehensive screening before treatment is what drives the high-quality care that has been our standard at RCBM for over two decades. We wanted to find a way to make the proven process we utilize for our patients more widely accessible and achievable in the mental health care space - and so MindMetrix was born," said Joel L. Young, M.D., MindMetrix Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer. "With a mental health system that is struggling on both sides, for both patients and physicians, MindMetrix is a way to bridge the gap."
MindMetrix is modeled after the comprehensive screening RCBM has been doing in person since 1993 - but now, patients can take their time with the questions from the comfort and privacy of home, feeling confident that their doctor - no matter the specialty - will have plenty of data to find the right solutions for their concerns.
The MindMetrix report is thorough in breadth and depth: it calculates your likelihood of having each condition based on a formula that combines peer-reviewed test results, the published accuracy rates of each test, and the condition’s prevalence in the general US adult population. An elevated likelihood shows how much more likely you are to have the condition than the average adult in the US, and is paired within the report alongside the exact tests or scales utilized to produce these findings.
MindMetrix is a way for patients to self-advocate for proper treatment and support, and for doctors to review clear data and metrics to enable proper diagnosis and treatment.
And the help is much needed on the physician side. With 47% of the U.S. population in 2022 living in a mental health workforce shortage area[2], primary care physicians will continue to see a rise in mental health cases while their patients await appointments with specialists.
Bottom line: MindMetrix delivers a turn-key experience that benefits all sides of the mental health equation. By providing a complete picture using data and science that can help inform diagnoses from the very first appointment, MindMetrix is the map that empowers individuals to navigate the path to feeling better, and let doctors do what they do best: treat their patients.
