The Challenges and Uses of AI and Machine Learning in Healthcare
Dr. Yasir Khan and Jim Massey from Cerner Middle East discuss the role and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in healthcare in the Middle East. They're exploring AI applications for clinical decision support and identifying patterns and correlations between clinical processes and outcomes. Major challenges include ethical considerations, data quality, and adoption. Despite the complications, they emphasize that AI can enhance clinical decision-making by processing large data sets and detecting patterns humans might miss. Cerner Middle East is investing heavily in AI to tackle health issues unique to the region. Initial projects include disease-specific readmission algorithms and Atrial Fibrillation risk factors. Cerner Middle East also established an AI lab in Dubai to help clients extract value from their data and to provide hands-on experience with AI tools and techniques for their associates. They aim to collaborate with Cerner globally and extend their knowledge and experience with AI in healthcare.
AI-Driven Software: Providing Complete Prior Authorization Coverage for Healthcare Providers
In the struggle between health insurers and patients, healthcare providers bear the brunt, with burdens such as lengthy preauthorization processes and insurance denials costing them in time, money, and productivity. As VP of Product for Infinx, I've been addressing these issues through an AI-driven software solution that covers all prior authorizations, complemented by certified specialists for exceptional scenarios. Our Prior Authorization Determination Engine, a newly launched feature, gauges if a procedure needs prior authorization and schedules patients swiftly, enhancing their experience. The software allows providers to electronically submit authorization requests to all payers, keeping them updated with real-time authorizations. The goal is to reduce administrative burdens, mitigate financial risks, and alleviate patient scheduling anxiety. For more information, please visit our website.
The Promise of Assistive Intelligence, The Only Kind of AI Healthcare Needs
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have made significant inroads into the healthcare sector, largely due to increased investments in transactional systems such as EMRs, CRMs, and ERPs. AI's potential to transform healthcare delivery is contingent on harnessing this data wealth, which involves intricate data understanding and technical acumen. AI's use is timely as the U.S. healthcare system grapples with unsustainable spending. Innovative ML techniques can identify outlier patterns in data, providing valuable insights into organizational operation. Successful AI integration should be guided by CUTA - Consumable, Understandable, Trustable, and Actionable principles to generate meaningful, accurate, and applicable insights. Achieving a return on investment necessitates agreement on baselines, suggested interventions, and the need to measure the outcome as soon as the problem is identified.
